Two Babylons by Alexander Hislop

Two Babylons

Pagan Origins of Religion  by
Alexander Hislop

Two Babylons is born from a passion connecting ancient Babylonian religion to arguments from Egyptian, Grecian and Roman mythologies. The original book is from 1853; it centers on the apocalyptic symbolism of Babylon’s image in the Book of Revelations and arguments about the non-scriptural precedents of some of the fundamental practices of the Roman Church. Alexander Hislop also analyzes the pagan roots of religious holidays and accepted doctrines such as Easter and crucifixion, respectively. Drawing from various religious and historical resources, Alexander provides detailed comparisons between festivals today and those of the ancient Babylonian religion. Although Alexander Hislop wrote a long time before anyone decoded this ancient Babylonian religion, certain Christian evangelical protestant groups highly regard this work. Much of this book depends upon the links between influential mysteries, historical figures and folk etymology. Continuously going through critical analysis, the book is considered a continuation of the ancient Babylonian religion.

Popular Beliefs are the Biblical?

State of the Dead  by
Dr. Samuele Bacchocchi

What is the view of different religions about the afterlife? What is the perspective of Egyptians, Greek, Jews, and Christians about Immortality of the Soul? Why did the reformers reject the belief about purgatory? How do the different sects of Christianity evaluate the Bible? Is the Bible free from errors or full of errors? Why are there historical attacks against the Bible, like preventing its distribution and reading by the Roman Empire, Moslems, Communists, and even Catholics and Protestants themselves?
These are some of the questions that Bacchocchi answered. In this book, he presented the popular beliefs that we have today and explained that not because it’s popular, it’s biblical, because it turns out that many of our beliefs are rooted in Greek philosophy. He reexamined if these beliefs are still in harmony with the teachings of Jesus’ day and back it up with what the Bible had said. It was the sincere hope of the author that the truth that God revealed for our salvation could be recovered.

Kingdom of the Cults

Cult Apologetics  by
Walter Martin

In the olden times, books are rare. Every town only has one copy of the Scriptures, and only a rabbi can read and interpret them to the people. However, not everyone can be a rabbi. You can only teach the Scriptures if you are the cream of the crop.
With the advent of technology, information is readily available. Everyone can have a copy of the Bible. Many people, even if they are not deep learners, were giving their interpretation of the Word. This freedom has its perks, but it also created many problems because some people misused the Word and carried the Bible with malice.
Martin Walter is an apologist who dived deep into the study of different religious sects. His book “Kingdom of the Cults” is considered the best classic that discussed cults in America. It reminds us that freedom should be balanced with responsibility so that we may not misread what the Bible had said.

Hard sayings of the bible

Bible Language Explained by
Walter C. Kaiser

Hard Sayings of the Bible provides easy to read answers to the difficult verses in the bible that makes sense to the general reader. It is a handy reference book that explains over 500 troubling bible verses to find solutions ranging from everyday discrepancies to God’s justice. The author sheds a contemporary light on the passages, making them more relevant today, as opposed to the general practice of travelling through time and finding ancient meanings irrelevant in these modern times. The book lists over dozen of new chronologies, essays, articles, linguistic cross-references and cultural backgrounds, combining resources to untie the scriptural knots. The author’s research academic record and vast experience as a professor of theology shine through in this 1990 Christianity Today Critic’s Choice Award. His command over the scripture, biblical criticism and exegesis cuts through the heavy verses on miracles and prophesies, eventually sorting out misunderstandings, contradictions and confusion.

Works of Jonathan Edwards Vol 2

Complete Theology  by
Jonathon Edwards

Are religiosity and spirituality the same thing? Should we love the Lord with all our hearts or with all our minds? When it comes to faith, is it better to be emotional or rational? Jonathan Edward’s works were written during the 18th-century Great Awakening, where revival swept across America. However, this zeal towards spirituality came with a problem in counterfeit faith. For others were only persuade with the heat of the moment but lack sincerity in their religion.
This 2nd volume is an extensive collection of works that includes a biography Edward had written about his colleague in the mission field, theological discourses, spiritual treatise, and biblical exegesis. It also contains sermons that tackle how God is glorified through our dependence on Him, the fate of sinners in the hands of an angry God, divine decrees and light, many of his “Miscellanies,” and many more. Edwards also presented twelve signs of a truly converted life by differentiating genuine from false piety. It reminds us that the false cannot be true, but the true can become false. May we find the true way towards faith and never depart from it.

Works of Jonathan Edwards Vol 1

Complete Theology  by
Jonathon Edwards

Though his father and maternal grandfather were pastors, and he was the only son among the 11 children of his parents, Jonathan Edwards did not accept his theological birthright submissively. But if not for inheritance or family background, what does it take for a man to find God? Edwards confessed that his mind was full of objections during childhood. Only with his conversion that he became delighted with the truths he grew up with.
This volume contains extracts from his diary, letters to different people, and narratives about various topics. Written by a man with deep convictions, this book is not for casual reading. It has to be read with a meditation of the Word. Although Edwards was primarily identified as a theologian, he is considered the greatest philosopher in American History. If you want to know why, this is the book to consult.

Babylonian Talmud – Tract Sanhedrin

Jewish Oral Tradition  by
Michael Rodkinson

The first edition of Babylonian Talmud appeared in 1896, after which it went through many revisions and major editing done by the Talmud Society. This monumental work is a primary source of knowledge on Jewish theology and laws. Agreeably as a centerpiece of Jewish culture, the book is a collection of writings venturing into a kaleidoscope of subjects and expounding the Jewish way of life. The author gives a generous introduction to the tractates, containing decades of teachings and opinions of many generations dating back to the fifth century. Babylonian Talmud covers various topics such as Jewish ethics, folklore, philosophy, history and customs. The documentation in Babylonian Talmud is a widely used reference as it is a culmination of three hundred years of research and analysis. The structure of this book is careful and precise owing to the sensitive subject, sometimes hard to read yet, we cannot deny its influence.
