Teaching on Preaching

Preachings by
Dr. Jack  Hyles

Dr. Hyles made no attempt at being original. He often said that the definition of leadership is, “One who goes from follower to follower and collects ideas, compiles them, puts them in a book, and sells a copy to each follower.” Dr. Hyles was privileged to travel the length and breadth of this country.

The Power of Integrity in Preaching

Call to Pastors by
Dean Shriver

Dean Shriver reminds us again of the need for personal integrity in preachers and their preaching. He argues that integrity is everything, and it must not be faked. The God who speaks with the utmost integrity must have messengers who represent him well. Anyone in ministry, therefore, needs to read this book. Although it can be read in a couple of hours, it will have to be practiced for a lifetime

The Secret to a Great Preaching Ministry

Preaching by
Steven Elzinger

The Secret to a great Preaching Ministry states that every Sunday morning, millions of believers gather around a pulpit to hear God’s message for their lives. The sermon might inspire, convict, or challenge the listeners in their spiritual quest. But within a few days, the message is forgotten, while the struggles continue. Many books address this problem by focusing on the speaker’s role: tips and tricks for communicating more effectively. But the other side of the equation is often neglected. The secret to a great preaching ministry, Steven Elzinga reveals, lies in preparing the hearts of the listeners.

Preaching and Preachers

Practical Homiletics by
D.Martin Lloyd-Jones

For over 30 years, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones ministered at Westminster Chapel in London. Today, he is widely considered one of the greatest preachers of the 20th century. Based on a series of lectures originally given by Lloyd-Jones to the students of Westminster Theological Seminary in the spring of 1969, this collection of essays on the essence of powerful preaching has become a modern classic. Lloyd-Jones defends the primacy of preaching, showing that there is no substitute, and he challenges preachers to take their calling seriously: “The most urgent need in the Christian Church today is true preaching.

Preaching the Cross

Various Preachers by
Dever, Duncan

Preaching the Cross states that Proclaiming the gospel is without a doubt the most important task of pastoral ministry, yet often other, seemingly more urgent activities obscure it. From time to time all pastors and preachers need to be reminded of the primacy of the gospel. Preaching the Cross does just this. It is a call to expository, gospel-centered preaching as the center of pastoral ministry. This volume showcases an unprecedented combination of pastors representing a variety of evangelical traditions.

Foxes book of Martyrs

Biography  by
John Foxe

This English classic revives the days when noble armies climbed the steep slides amidst pain and peril to conquer. Book of Martyrs is a living force; it is more than a work on Protestant history but a storehouse of romance and controversy that houses the sufferings of Protestants, from the days of the Lord to the present. It is an ecclesiastical history of troubles and persecutions in the critical days, focusing on Scotland and England. Published in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, Foxe discusses Christian martyrs, medieval church, noting that the Church of England was a continuation rather than an innovation. He has ventured through the pain of martyrs that run death to give them light. Including accurate accounts from the historical writings, the book has encouraged national repudiation of the Catholic Church. The book is arguably one of the more technically complex and imposing books of this era.

The life of John Bunyan

Christian Life  by
Unknown

The 17th century Period of Revolution is filled with influential figures such as John Bunyan. Representing the concepts of sin and faith as natural aspects of the world, John presented the idea of life as a journey that has guided Christians in their quest for salvation worldwide. Modest beginnings, informal education and experiencing tragedy at an early age added to John’s journey dedicated to spiritual awakening. John told rich and symbolic stories that are not easy to digest. He penned down his allegory titled The Pilgrim’s Progress in prison. The book is a spiritual bibliography of a prolific writer who seeks not only his spiritual journey; he encourages others to start their own. 250 years after his death, John is lived by more than 60 poems and titles that he wrote during his lifetime. Adoniram Judson and the Missionary call

Biography  by
Erroll Hulse

Adoniram Judson travelled far and wide, following the call to spread messages from the Gospel. He exemplified faith, perseverance, love and self-discipline. Doctrines of commitment to inspire missionaries and reaching the unreached people are ingrained in Judson’s life. He was a foreign missionary from the United States who became a pioneer in translating the Bible for Burmese people. Judson was an unsettled, young and brilliant mind who suffered a shattered struggle to control his thoughts, finding out that the Bible is true. He overcame anxiety and weakness by achieving personal salvation. The author puts forth an ambitious life full of turns that inspired Judson to become a missionary and carry the message through to those lost without, hoping that it will encourage Christians to trace their lives and asses themselves as Judson did after reading about Christian Schwartz. The author takes the legacy of Adoniram Judson and comes full circle.

Life Story of C.I. Scofield

Biography  by
Charles Trumbull

The mother dies after the birth and the father although not well instructed, read the bible to him; Scofield read his bible like any other Christian boy, a regular book with little attention. The life of a name honored by thousands starts with unconscious mental habits and humble beginnings. Responsible for the popularization of dispensational premillennialism, C. I. Scofield was influenced by the dispensationalism of J. N. Darby. Creating a correspondence course that enrolled thousands of his students and being a regular on the Bible Conference Circuit, Scofield’s dispensational approach is brilliant and remarkable as he holds on to the literal, historical and grammatical system of biblical interpretations. Charles Trumbull’s book is the only book-length reflection on the life of a man who influences twentieth-century American fundamentalism. Scofield’s dispensational charts have made appearances in churches throughout the twentieth century and it has introduced the principle of right division to millions.
