Book of Martyrs is a living force; it is more than a work on Protestant history but a storehouse of romance and controversy that houses the sufferings of Protestants, from the days of the Lord to the present. It is an ecclesiastical history of troubles and persecutions in the critical days, focusing on Scotland and England. Published in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, Foxe discusses Christian martyrs, medieval church, noting that the Church of England was a continuation rather than an innovation. He has ventured through the pain of martyrs that run death to give them light.
