Minister’s Self Watch

Church Planting – Leadership  by
C.H. Spurgeon

“Charles Spurgeon, the Prince of Preachers, told the students at his Pastor’s College:

“”It will be in vain for me to stock my library, or organise societies, or project schemes, if I neglect the culture of myself; for books, and agencies, and systems, are only remotely the instruments of my holy calling; my own spirit, soul, and body, are my nearest machinery for sacred service; my spiritual faculties, and my inner life, are my battle axe and weapons of war.”””

The Reformed Pastor

Leadership  by
Richard Baxter

Richard Baxter, Puritan author of “The Reformed Pastor,” was famous for two things: being a tremendous pastor to a town in England, and getting constantly into trouble for being so blunt that he would make enemies of his friends. This book is about being a tremendous pastor. It is also goes straight to the point. “The Reformed Pastor” is actually an extended lecture that Baxter proposed to present to a local ministerial association in 1656.

Pastor as Scholar

Pastor Studying by
Piper – Carson

This book looks at the relationship between scholarship and pastoral ministry. Piper centres on the importance of scholarship and academic pursuits in his role as pastor. Carson, conversely, focuses on the importance of pastoral ministry in his career as a scholar.

An interesting blend of testimony, insight and teaching, this book challenges those in ministry to think carefully and holistically about their calling
