Losses are not measured in pounds but in thousands of tons. How long will it take for this trend to show up as shortages and higher food prices? Will that prompt our groaning?

Rom 8 v 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

Extinction is forever

September 22, 2015 By Richard A. Volunteer

You will recognize them by their large oversized nose called a proboscis which is thought to help cool the hot desert air and also heat the frozen air entering the lungs.  Saiga are listed as a critically endangered by the union for the Conservation of Nature after their numbers fell to to less than 21,000 in the 1990’s. Their odds of survival improved as their numbers grew to 257,000 with a herd in Kazikhstan and Russian and Mongolia.

All that came to an end with the shocking die off of 60,000 antelope in just 4 days this year. Within one month 134,000 of the animals lay dead wiping out two herds some 300km apart simultaneously. These deaths of one third of the worldwide population are catastrophic and a United Nations backed effort known as CMS statement confirmed that “not a single animal survived in the affected herds” Researchers are baffled as to the reason “The extent of this die-off, and the speed it had, by spreading throughout the whole calving herd and killing all the animals, this has not been observed for any other species,” said Steffen Zuther, a geoecologist and coordinator of the Atlyn Dala Conservation Initiative. “It’s really unheard of.  The question is why it developed so rapidly and why it spread to all the animals?”The few remaining antelope now still face is historic enemies – wildlife crime and poaching, so the odds of their survival look bleak.

Meanwhile back at home……the Honey Bee Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) has a huge impact on our food production since they pollinate most of our crops. Two thirds of crops require pollination by bees — that’s one out of every three bites of food we take. The droughts across the West are impacting their populations. A dangerous new pattern in the bee crisis is alarming researchers and advocates. For the first time ever, beekeepers are losing more bee colonies during summer months than the cold winter months. Beekeepers have reported losing more than 40 percent of their honey bee colonies over the last year, according to a recently released survey.

Nature is feeling the strain of fewer resources stretched by a larger population with growing needs of water, arable land and materials. We are consuming more and also wasting more. We have caused 322 animal extinctions over the past 500 years, with two-thirds of those occurring in the last two centuries, according to a paper by the Journal of Science.

I wonder what the Creator thinks when He looks at what we have done? Gen 1 v 31 And God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good.……….Six times God reviewed every days creation and concluded….It was very good.  He then turned over the beauty of all He had made for man to keep and take care of…. Gen 2v15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden to cultivate it and keep it.
Today God listens to the groans of His Creation Is 24 v5 The earth dries up and withers, the world languishes and withers, the heavens languish with the earth. 5 The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws….

What will we say when He calls us to account for our management of His planet?

Droughts lead to Fires

September 21, 2015 By Richard A. Volunteer

The higher temperatures in the West have led to a dwindling snowpack. This has meant that the forests have become drier and so more susceptible to fires. The drought and now fires have spread from Alaska, who moved its famous Iditarod race due to a lack of snow, through Washington and to southern California.

In the conifer forests of the western United States, earlier snow melts, longer summers and an increase in spring and summer temperatures have increased fire frequency by 400 percent and have increased the amount of land burned by 650 percent since 1970.

Active fires have burnt three times as many acres in Washington state as in California. Fires over 100,000 acres are considered a “megafire” and before 1995 there was only 1 per year in California. This year California has had 5 “megafires.” Reports said more than 5,000 fires had burned six million acres already, and there have been several fatalities.

Washington Record Fires

Tens of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars have already evaporated. And with no end in sight, there may still be years of suffering — and painful decisions — waiting ahead.
The U.S. Forest Service spent around $200 million a week battling wildfires across the country during the summer of 2015, breaking all-time records, according to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack. Oregon and Washington were among the hardest hit states, with hundreds of thousands of acres scorched.

Several Western states — California, Montana and Idaho — are also seeing a severe fire season with some 11,600 square miles scorched so far. Authorities have warned that smoke from these fires is creating hazardous air quality and that the choking haze could soon spread north into Canada.
About 1,250 firefighters were battling the fires, which were just 10% contained and threatened over 5,000 homes. The firefighters included about 700 Washington National Guardsmen.

Crews also arrived from New Zealand and Australia, as areas of central and eastern Washington battled 16 large wildfires covering more than 920 square miles.

We should not be ignorant of the ways in which God works. God often withholds rains upon a people who continue to sin against Him. Is the prolonged lack of rain in California just blind coincidence or is God angry with us as a people?

Drought—followed by famine—is one of the consequences for national disobedience. Our national sins do not go unnoticed by God. God makes this clear to Solomon and the same applies today since God has not changed (Malachi 3:6).

Then the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice. When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:12-13).

I wonder if we as a nation will seek His face….and more importantly will we turn from our wicked ways.

Famines – Earthquakes related?

May 15, 2014 By Richard A. Volunteer

There will be wars, famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.” (Matt. 24:4-8) Does famine affect earthquakes? Is there a relationship between Earthquakes and Drought?

Half of the United States is experiencing drought, according to the latest numbers from the U.S. National Drought Monitor. The drought is deepest in California and the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, according to the latest drought map, released May 8.

Today, for the first time this century, the entire state of California is in a severe drought — or worse. The drought in California, the largest US agricultural producer, has exacerbated wild fires burning in the southern part of the state and might force some farmers to abandoned fields as lack of water makes it impossible to grow crops.

The three worst levels of drought are severe, extreme and exceptional: 100% of California is now in one of those three categories: (23.31% severe, 51.92.% extreme and 24.77% exceptional.) The most comparable recent drought was the drought of 1976-77. But the impacts today are more intense because the state’s population has doubled since then while the state’s water supply has remained fixed. The only other California drought similar to todays was during the 1920s. But the state’s population then was 1/10th of what it is now.

Through the first four months of 2014, California and Arizona have experienced the hottest start to any year in records going back to 1895.

As if the drought couldn’t get any worse, geologists now think that changes in groundwater could be destabilizing the infamous San Andreas Fault. The new research presents “a grand unified theory of California problems: water and drought lead to earthquake risk.”   The study published this week in Nature started with asking why the Sierra Nevada’s and Coastal Ranges have risen by 1 to 3 millimeters every year.

University of Nevada, Reno Research Professor Geoff Blewitt told this story in a presentation at the European Geophysical Sciences Union conference in Vienna, Austria on April 28. The annual EGU General Assembly is the largest and most prominent European geosciences event attracting over 11,000 scientists from all over the world.

Over the past 150 years, around 40 trillion gallons of groundwater in California’s Central Valley has been lost through pumping, irrigation and evapotranspiration. That’s roughly equal to all the water in Lake Tahoe, the volume of which can cover the entire state of California in 14 inches of water.

This groundwater is being increasingly depleted by agriculture in the Central Valley. The upper portion of the earth is elastic, and the ground water is weighing it down on it. Removing groundwater is like lifting that weight. The earth’s crust literally flexes up. As it moves up, it pushes up the Sierra Nevada’s and the Coastal Ranges. If the effect of groundwater depletion is big enough to move mountains, then it’s also big enough to affect the San Andreas Fault, where only friction keeps two tectonic plates from slipping. Changes in the balance of forces on these faults result in earthquakes. Long-term depletion of groundwater has led to the continued rise of the Sierra Nevada’s and it could be further destabilizing the San Andreas fault.  The current drought has made it worse.

When Oklahoma actually outpaced California in total quakes during each of the first three months in 2014, researchers said they believed injection wells used to dispose of fracking wastewater were contributing to heightened earthquake activity. To unleash natural gas, fracking requires large volumes of water, sand, and chemicals to be pumped underground. The changes in pressure led to the swarms of quakes.

Seismologists grapple with the connection between oil and gas development and earthquakes. New research being presented at the annual meeting of the Seismological Society of America showed that wastewater disposal wells—deep holes drilled to hold hundreds of millions of gallons of fluid produced by oil and gas wells—may be changing the stress on existing faults, inducing earthquakes. Those quakes can occur tens of miles away from the wells themselves and can be large as well—researchers have now linked two quakes in 2011 with a magnitude greater than 5.0 to wastewater wells.

So we pump the water out to irrigate the land or we pump water in to extract the oil – nature has reached a tipping point. Earthquakes and famine are not two unrelated ideas. Given the recent wars over oil – Wars, earthquakes and famine are all very related. New wars will be fought over dwindling resources. The Author of these words knew what He was talking about. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes. But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.” (Matt. 24:4-8)

Famines

May 8, 2014 By Richard A. Volunteer

Mark 13 v 8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has created the largest natural disaster area in U.S. history. The USDA has declared 1,016 counties in 26 U.S. states to be disaster areas. The USDA declaration basically covered about 61 percent of the entire nation. If it persists into August it could become perhaps the worst drought that America has ever seen…..and that includes the 1930’s dust-bowl. The drought is now threatening California’s drinking supply. The State Water Project, the main municipal water system, said did not have enough water to supplement the local agencies that provide water to an additional 25 million people. It is first time the project has turned off its water in its 54-year history.  The 2008-2011 California drought not end until March 2011. The drought shifted during the Summer of 2011 to affect a large portion of the Southwest and Texas. In 2013 and early 2014, the California drought returned and intensified. The year 2013 set new 150 year low precipitation records everywhere in California. In 2011 intense drought struck much of the Southwest bringing much of the region its worst drought seen since the Dust Bowl years of the 1930’s. Why is California so important?

California produces our food:
99 percent of the artichokes
44 percent of asparagus,
20 percent of cabbage
67 percent of carrots,
50 percent of bell peppers
89 percent of cauliflower
94 percent of broccoli
95 percent of celery.
90 percent of the leaf lettuce
83 percent of fresh spinach
30 percent of fresh tomatoes
95 percent of canned tomatoes.
86 percent of lemons
25 percent of oranges
90 percent of avocados
84 percent of peaches
88 percent of fresh strawberries
97 percent of fresh plums

Cornell University assistant professor of earth and atmospheric sciences Toby Ault said that the current 13-year dry spell will be of similar magnitude of the mega-droughts found in tree ring records. Data gleaned from tree rings and other sources show that the chance of a decade-long drought in the U.S. would be about 45 percent. Meanwhile the drought spreads worldwide to the countries we rely on when our crops fail. The darker areas on the map represent growing droughts.

In 2013, short-term global drought conditions intensified on all continents with little relief worldwide. In North America, the intensification was seen in the Central and Southern Plains of the U.S. and down into central Mexico. In South America, drought conditions changed little with severe drought conditions remaining in eastern Brazil and along the side of the Southern Andes. In Africa, drought intensified along the equator, especially in the eastern part of the continent and across Madagascar. In Europe, drought intensified across most of the central part of the continent. In Asia, drought continued to intensify in southern China and across Southeast Asia, as well as across southern Russia and northern Kazakhstan and Mongolia. In Australia, drought intensification occurred in many inland areas.

It is now highly likely that an El Niño event will develop by the fall of 2014, according to the Climate Prediction Center and Columbia University’s International Institute for Climate and Society. El Niño events typically develop during the spring and summer, and peak in strength during the late fall and winter. The odds now are 65% for this summer and 80% for October-Jan 2015.  El Niño events are characterized by warmer than average sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific, and they add heat to the atmosphere, thereby warming global average temperatures. El Niño events can lead to records being set for the planet’s warmest year.

Drought will lead to famine and the rising cost of food will impact all economies while killing millions by starvation. Wars have interrupted the planting of  critical crops in Sudan and death will follow as night follows day. Water resources are going to be more politically important than oil.  Mark 13 v 8 – Yeshua gave us a description of the events ahead...wars and random earthquakes and  famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

Aflockalypse

November 17, 2012 By Richard A. Volunteer

Thousands of birds that fell from the sky on Beebe, Arkansas on New Year’s Eve. The following year more birds fell on that same town.  Some 100,000 fish also washed up on the shores of a river 100 miles away. More birds fell from the sky in Louisiana and Kentucky. Two million fish washed up dead in the Chesapeake Bay. 50 birds fell from the sky in Sweden. 100 tons of fish washed ashore in Brazil. 40,000 crabs were found dead in England……..

Something is very wrong.  There are dead fish and dead bird reports at the rate of 1 incident a day.  In the first 120 days of 2012 there were over 90 incidents in 27 countries.  Some examples……

4th May 2012 – 2 TONNES of dead Fish found in a River in Jinzhou China.

30th April 2012 – Hundreds of Bull Red Fish found dead in Alabama.
28th April 2012 – 1200 Pelicans found dead in Peru.
25th April 2012 – 11,000 dead Fish found in River in Kettering, America.
25th April 2012 – 28,000 dead Fish found in River in Strongsville, America.
11th April 2012 – 300 more Dolphins found dead on beaches in Peru.
11th April 2012 – 14,000 Fish dead in Creek in Missouri.
4th April 2012 – 615 Dolphins Found Dead on Beaches in Peru.

The U.N. Environment Program (UNEP) urged more research into baffling deaths — ranging from why whales swim onto beaches to recent unexplained bird deaths. “Science is struggling to explain these things. These are examples of the surprises that nature can still bring,” said Nick Nuttall, spokesman of Nairobi-based UNEP.

“More research is needed”   is an educated way of saying   “We have no idea?”

Yet the scripture is full of verses that mention the fate of the fish and the birds together.  God ties the fate of the birds and the fish to man’s moral behavior and the wickedness of man. As a child suffers when their parent is absent or addicted, so the animals suffer and die under sinful mans government of the earth.  One only has to read a paper to realize we are going to see a lot more “unexplained”   deaths.

The 5th letter,  the letter “H” Hey ” added to Abra”h” am’s name to signify grace. By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth” (Psalm 33:6). In the Talmud, it is said that the “breath of His mouth” refers to the sound of the letter Hey – the out breathing of Spirit. I find it interesting the water and the air or the “water and the spirit”  – both symbols of God’s Grace are now the medium He uses to show His displeasure.

Gen 1 v 20 God said, “Let the 1) waters teem with living creatures, and 2) let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 … 23 And there was evening, and there was morning – the fifth day.

Hosea 4 v 3   The LORD has a charge to bring against …………because of this the land dries up, and all who live in it waste away; the beasts of the field, the birds in the sky and the fish in the sea are swept away …”

Zephaniah 1:3  “I will sweep away both men and animals; I will sweep away the birds of the air and the fish of the sea. The wicked will have only heaps of rubble when I cut off man from the face of the earth,” declares the LORD.

Is 7 billion significant?

September 15, 2011 By Richard A. Volunteer

It took 123 years for the world to double from one billion in 1804 to two billion in 1927. From 1987, when the number hit five billion, it took just 11 years to add a billion more.  Within the last half century, the population boomed to less than 7 billion from 3 billion. By 2050, the population will reach 9.3 billion, and 97 percent of the growth will be in less developed regions.

The world’s 7 billionth person will be born Oct. 31, 2011  in India, according to a projection by researchers working with data from the United Nations.

Where a growing population will live is not the thrust of the problem, said the UN, which estimates that the world’s entire population, standing shoulder to shoulder, could fit in the city of Los Angeles.  The challenges are high birthrates, dwindling resources such as food and water, coupled with increasing life expectancy.

“In the 1960s and 1970s, people expected a population bomb,” a UN researcher said in a telephone interview. “Now, we have mini-bombs going off in the most fragile parts of the world. Issues of inequality and poverty may spill over from less- developed countries, which will not be good for their neighbors or the rest of the world

The greatest challenge facing the world is that the highest birthrates are concentrated in the poorest countries.  Trapped in a cycle of poverty, lack of education and opportunities the cycle is repeated with the next early pregnancy.  “They are married away too often, too early and they bear children too early.  So they never meet their potential,” said a researcher.

Growth in Africa remains so high that the population there could more than triple in this century, rising from today’s one billion to 3.6 billion, the report said — a sobering forecast for a continent already struggling to provide food and water for its people.

That is particularly so for some fast-growing countries whose populations are projected to skyrocket over the next century. For instance, Yemen, a country whose population has quintupled since 1950, to 25 million, would see its numbers quadruple again, to 100 million, by century’s end, if the projections prove accurate. Yemen already depends on food imports and faces critical water shortages.

In Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, the report projects that population will rise from today’s 162 million to 730 million by 2100. Malawi, a country of 15 million today, could grow to 129 million, the report projected.

The  assumption behind these numbers is that food and water will be available for the billions yet unborn, and that potential catastrophes including climate change, wars or epidemics will not serve as a brake on population growth. “It is quite possible for several of these countries that are smallish and have fewer resources, these numbers are just not sustainable,” Dr. Zlotnik said.

Is Seven Billion significant to God?  We strain our eyes into the future and excite our imagination with the possibilities presented in the events around us.   It has been 490 (7×70) years since Luther and October 31st is also Reformation day.

The bible speaks of a future time when the fullness of the Gentiles will have come in,  and then the focus shifts to Israel.  So God does keep a count.

Toxic Bodies Unburied

March 31, 2011 By Richard A. Volunteer

Japanese officials believe that hundreds of bodies lie uncollected in the 12-mile evacuation radius around the crippled nuclear power plants, but nobody wants to talk about it. A police officer from the Fukushima prefecture said that weeks after the disaster, “we find bodies  in cars, in rivers, under debris and in streets.”

Logistical difficulties and fear of radiation have slowed efforts to collect bodies within the Fukushima Dai-ichi evacuation zone, and there are also concerns about how to deal with the corpses once they’re gathered.

Even after recovering the bodies and returning them to families, how relatives choose to say goodbye to loved ones will pose health and safety dilemmas.  Cremation could spread radioactive material, while conventional burial would contaminate the soil and leach into the ground water.

Police sources said today that bodies are still being exposed to high levels of radiation after death. Officials are reconsidering their plan to inspect the bodies after removing them from the evacuation zone. ”One option is to take decontamination vehicles there and decontaminate the bodies one by one,” a radiation-treatment expert told the news agency. Officials fear that decontamination might further damage the decomposing remains.

The Eternal God of History spoke of such a time 2000 years ago, when He described this happening in Israel in the near future. There special teams would also be assembled and trained in the removal of hazardous corpses.

Ezekiel 39:12 And the children of Israel will be seven months putting them in the earth, so as to make the land clean. 13 And all the people of the land will put them in the earth; and it will be to their honour in the day when I let my glory be seen, says the Lord. 14 And they will put on one side men to do no other work but to go through the land and put in the earth the rest of those who are still on the face of the land, to make it clean: after seven months are ended they are to make a search.

Ezekiel 39  v 15 And while they go through the land, if anyone sees a man’s bone, he is to put up a sign by the place till those who are doing the work have put it in the earth in the valley of Hamon-gog.  v 16 And there they will put all the army of Gog in the earth.  So they will make the land clean.

God described the Hazardous Materials Teams before we understood what He meant.  Japan and its complications are but a foretaste of our future.

Quakes, Japan and Israel.

March 16, 2011 By Richard A. Volunteer

March 11, 2010: Japan deplores the decisions of the Government of Israel to give permission to construct in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. The Government of Japan does not recognize any act that prejudges the final status of Jerusalem and the territories in the pre-1967 borders

In fact, nine (9) of the ten “top ten natural disasters ranked by relief costs” found on FEMA’s webpage occurred at a time when the U.S. went against Israel.

Some of these judgments occurred within 24 hours of an American push against Israel. God warns us in His Word to not interfere in His covenant with the nation of Israel I find Nine (9) significant also as the number of Judgment:

There are 9 Greek words derived from the root word meaning judgment = dikay. The following words each occur 9 times in the Bible: abussos (bottomless pit); asebee (ungodly); aselgeia (lasciviousness); and astrapee (lightning).

Some thoughts: Zechariah 12:3,9: And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people; And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

Obadiah 1:15 which says, “The day of the LORD is near for all nations. As you have done (to Israel), it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head.”

We are accountable

March 9, 2011 By Richard A. Volunteer

Watching a very graphic documentary on world hunger.  Similar to watching the camps of Dachau and Belsen being liberated. Except these are not camps, they are feeding stations where the black skeletons crawl to. There they wait under the sun and wind, and they wait,  for the aid that may not arrive.

Makes one truly hate obesity, being overfed, overpaid and unconcerned, our priorities, all we do and all we stand for.

Jesus identified  Himself as being Bread and Water. God himself promised His followers only Bread and Water, not luxuries. Our prayers are to be for only daily bread and water. Those were Gods priorities and His bottom line…to all of us…to all who call on Him.  Give us this day our daily bread, no more, no less!

The trials at Nuremberg will again convene and we collectively are the accused…… and then we can all say we did NOT  know!!!

Given we like to process their grain into our ethanol at a loss which we tax payers subsidize – so we push the food price beyond their means.  Then  we can pour it into a gas tank,  while the oil we have lies under the soil, so not to disturb the polar bears…?

The extremists are right. We are the great satan!  The world is their recruiting station and our policies and values, are their clarion call.

  • Every year 15 million children die of hunger
  • Throughout the 1990’s more than 100 million children did die from illness and starvation. Those 100 million deaths could have been been prevented for the price of only ten (10) US Stealth bombers, or what the world spends on its military in two days!
  • The World Health Organization estimates that one-third of the world is well-fed, one-third is under-fed one-third is starving.  Since you’ve entered this site at least 200 people have died of starvation. Over 4 million will die this year.
  • Nearly one in four people, 1.3 billion – a majority of humanity – live on less than $1 per day. UNICEF
  • 3 billion people in the world today struggle to survive on US$2/day.
  • Half of all children under five years of age in South Asia and one third of those in sub-Saharan Africa are malnourished.
  • Malnutrition is implicated in more than half of all child deaths worldwide – a proportion unmatched by any infectious disease since the Black Death
  • To satisfy the world’s sanitation and food requirements would cost only US$13 billion– what the people of the United States and the European Union spend on perfume each year
  • Every 3.6 seconds someone dies of hunger
  • It is estimated that some 800 million people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition, about 100 times as many as those who actually die from it each year.

Nuremberg.  MR. JUSTICE JACKSON:  May it please Your Honors: The privilege of opening the first trial in history for crimes against the peace of the world imposes a grave responsibility.

The wrongs which we seek to condemn and punish have been so calculated, so malignant, and so devastating, that civilization cannot tolerate their being ignored, because it cannot survive their being repeated.
