70 nations gather to defy God.

70 nations were the families of Gen 10 after the Flood. They are the descendants of Noah and his three sons.

70 Disciples/Apostles correspond to the 70 Nations of the World.  Luke 10 v 1 after these things the LORD appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, where he himself would come.

After all, the 70 Elders Moses appointed also represent judges and rules over the mixed multitude Number 11 v 17 The LORD said to Moses: “Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have they come to the tent of meeting that they may stand there with you?

These 70 Elders would eventually become the 70 that sat on the Sanhedrin in Yeshua’s day. – Seventy leaders of Israel were standing there with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan in the center. Each of them held an incense burner, from which a cloud of incense rose above their heads. Ezekiel 8 v 11

That during Sukkot (Feast of Nations) 70 bulls were sacrificed on behalf of the 70 Nations if you add up all of the bullocks offered over the seven days, they total seventy.  And if we go to the table of nations in Genesis, after the dispersion of the Tower of Babel, we find that humanity was divided into seventy basic families or nations.

Now the 70 nations of the world again gather to defy the God of Israel.

On Sunday, January 15th, 2017 Foreign Ministers and other diplomats from some 70 different countries have descended on Paris, with the intent to renew peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.  These were led by John Kerry Secretary of State for the United States and  French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Marc Ayrault.

The summit, which opened Sunday without leaders from either side of the conflict, is expected to urge the establishment of a Palestinian state. “We are here to reiterate strongly that the two-state solution is the only one possible,” said French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, in his opening remarks to top envoys at the conference.  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to attend, decrying the conference as biased against Israel from the outset.

Just a week and half before the Security Council vote, U.K. Prime Minster May delivered a speech overflowing with praise and support for Israel. Addressing the Conservative Friends of Israel, the prime minister hailed the Jewish state as “a remarkable country” and “a beacon of tolerance.”

Ties with Jerusalem were “crucial,” she said, promising to raise the bilateral trade relationship to new heights and describing the Balfour Declaration as “one of the most important letters in history.” Britain broke with the 70 and chose not sign the resolutions passed in Paris.

Nevertheless, international pressure on Israel to carve up the Holy Land like a Thanksgiving turkey continues to build following President Obama’s May 2011 speech calling for Israel to withdraw to the 1967 borders.

Nearly every world leader — and certainly every American president since the Six Day War — has demanded Israel give up significant amounts of territory within Judea, Samaria, and the Golan Heights in order to create a sovereign Palestinian state and make peace with Syria, but never this much territory. The Obama plan would force Israel to give it all up, to divide Jerusalem, and return to indefensible borders.

The recent United Nations Security Council resolution 2334 was a radical reversal of 30 years of US support for Israel in the U.N.  This resolution declared Jewish housing in Judea, Samaria, and East Jerusalem to be illegal. Israel fears the outcome of the Paris conference will certainly be biased against them.

A two-state solution would call for Israel to relinquish territories conquered in the 1967 Six-Day War and subsequently, create a Palestinian State. This would include establishing a Palestinian capital in East Jerusalem, thereby removing the Kotel (Western Wall) and the Temple Mount from Jewish control.

It is unclear whether the 800,000 Jews living over the 1949 Armistice Lines, comprising approximately 13 percent of Israel’s Jewish population, will be required to relocate.

I find it interesting that those 70 are now scheming to divide what God calls His – Joel 3:2, the Lord says: “I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; and they have divided up My land.” 

 

Turkey will leave N.A.T.O.

Since the coup attempt that killed 270 people Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has turned a democracy into his autocracy.  The purges in Turkey now makes the McCarthy era during the 1950’s look like a picnic.

A total of 2740 judges and prosecutors have been detained while 4,897 State employees were fired, and 76,567 State workers were suspended.  The military lost 3000 arrested with officers leaving the country to seek asylum in the West.

In Turkey it is not the Communists being hunted but the Gulenists….to date over 40, 360 suspected Gulenists have been detained.  The irony is that Fethullah Gulen, the Turkish preacher, and writer has supported President Erdogan’s rise to power.

During his early years as President after a history of military Coups in Turkey,  Erdogan used to call the widely circulated Gulenist owned newspaper “Zaman” as the “guardians of democracy in Turkey.”   In 2013 those same papers would expose the corruption of Erdogan regime. After the failed coup of July 2016 all Gulenists were labeled terrorists.

There is virtually no independent media left in Turkey with 160 media outlets shut and 108 journalists detained. His threat to bring back the death penalty has alarmed the EU members – as the EU does not allow the death penalty in its member states.

Ankara began its formal accession talks with the EU in 2005. In March 2016, the sides have reached what seemed like a landmark deal, when sealing a joint plan to combat the migration crisis. Ankara promised it would assist the EU in dealing with the influx of migrants in exchange for some funding and also to potential ease the process through which Turkey could gain EU accession and visa-free travel within the Schengen Zone for its citizens.

But despite plans to introduce the visa-free agreement in July, it has so far been postponed, with the EU authorities saying Turkey has failed to comply with all of the EU’s 72 criteria. Ankara’s tough anti-terrorism legislation, especially criticized by Brussels, is the main stumbling block.

Erdogan blasted Merkel, “Germany thinks that they are a first class country, a first class democracy and that Turkey is second class. We want them to treat us as equal partners.”  German Chancellor Angela Merkel said it was “highly alarming” that “freedom of the press and speech are being restricted [in Turkey] again and again,” and provided the example of the arrest of at least 13 editors and editors in chief of the Cumhuriyet newspaper.

German Justice Minister Heiko Maas said that Berlin would not extradite suspects to Turkey if they were facing political charges, with the only exception being evidence of “classic criminal activity” presented by Ankara.

Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu announced that people in Turkey no longer wanted the EU membership. The official said the government is under “huge pressure” to abandon its plans to join the EU bloc of 28 nations, which is being accused of “double standards.”  “We are under huge pressure to stop the negotiating process,” Cavusoglu said at a Strategic Forum in Slovenia.

Turkey has since strengthened ties to Russia and it appears its bid for E.U. membership is slipping further and further away.    Ankara’s large dependence on Moscow’s energy and tourism make this inevitable. Turkey’s constitution is shaped by Sharia law which is incompatible with Europe liberal thought.  Turkey (NATO’s 2nd largest military power) is also gravitating towards Russia on the Syrian issue.  This is reducing her ties with the U.S., as Russia continues to fuel tensions in NATO.  Moscow could split NATO apart.

Her future loyalties will lie with Russia and the Middle East and not with Europe. As Russia enlarges her influence in the Middle East, Europe and America will find themselves sidelined. The U.S. wasn’t even invited to a meeting held in Moscow between Russian, Turkish and Iranian officials who discussed solutions to the Syrian war. Turkey is prophesied to be a part of the nine (9) nations including Russia that will ultimately invade Northern Israel. Ezekiel 38 and 39 are future events. That separates her future from Europe. 

US support of Israel withdrawn

Today the UN Security Council voted to condemn Israeli settlements. Applause broke out in the 15-member Security Council’s chambers after the vote on the measure, which passed 14 to 0, with the United States ambassador, Samantha Power, raising her hand as the lone abstention. It broke with 36 years of accepted US Policy. Israel’s ambassador, Danny Danon, denounced the measure, and castigated the council members who had approved it.

In abstaining, the U.S. brushed aside calls for a veto by president-elect Donald Trump who, in an unprecedented move, managed to delay the vote a day by weighing in with Egypt, the initial sponsor of the resolution. Egypt then withdrew its support.

Samantha Power, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, defended the move to abstain, saying “one cannot champion” both settlements and a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“The settlement problem has gotten so much worse,” Power said after the vote, which had been delayed from Thursday. She added that “our vote today does not diminish” the country’s “steadfast” commitment to Israel. The decision to abstain highlighted the increasingly frayed relationship between the Obama administration and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. Netanyahu’s office, in a statement after the vote, rejected the resolution and said the Obama administration secretly plotted to undermine Israel by not vetoing the proposal. The White House rejected the accusation.

“The Obama administration not only failed to protect Israel against this gang-up at the UN, it colluded with it behind the scenes,” Netanyahu’s office said in the statement.

Israel argues the final status of the territories should be determined in any future talks on Palestinian statehood. “President Obama and Secretary Kerry are behind this shameful move against Israel at the UN,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was discussing behind-the-scenes diplomatic activity. “The US administration secretly cooked up with the Palestinians an extreme anti-Israeli resolution behind Israel’s back.” He called it “an abandonment of Israel, which breaks decades of US policy of protecting Israel at the UN”.

The measure demands Israel “immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem.” It declares the establishment of settlements by Israel has “no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law.” While the resolution does not call for sanctions on Israel, it amounts to a high-profile rebuke of the Israeli government and could hamper Israel’s negotiating position in future peace talks. Palestinians argue that the expansion of settlements on the disputed land makes a peace deal even less likely.

Under international law, Israeli settlements — built on Palestinian land occupied by Israel — are considered to be illegal. Some 600,000 Israelis live in east Jerusalem and on the West Bank, which the Palestinians seek as part of a future independent state. Israel captured both areas in the 1967 Mideast war. Putting the West Wall – Israel’s Holiest site in Palestinian lands is unthinkable.

President-elect Donald Trump and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer had all called on the Obama administration to veto the resolution before the vote.  “Today’s vote is a blow to peace that sets a dangerous precedent for further diplomatic efforts to isolate and demonize Israel,” Paul Ryan said. “Our unified Republican government will work to reverse the damage done by this administration and rebuild our alliance with Israel.”

In a tweet following the vote, Trump said: “As to the U.N., things will be different after Jan. 20th.”

Palestinian Reaction

Palestinian leaders, meanwhile, welcomed the resolution’s passage. The office of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said in a statement issued in Arabic that the move is “a big blow for the Israeli political policy, a condemnation for settlements and consensus by the international community and a support for the two-state solution.”

Ruling party Fatah spokesman Osama Qowasma called the vote a “historic victory for the Palestinian people, and it inaugurates a new stage in the conflict.”

A time is coming when the whole world will condemn Israel and the US Veto that protected them will be withdrawn. If it had not been for the US Veto and US Arms during the 1967 and the emergency shipments during the 1973 war, there would be no Israel today.

While Donald Trump may be a temporary change – America will abandon her ally and throw Israel to her enemies. The 14-0 vote is but the beginning. Like the Nazi era where harsh anti-Semitic laws were passed on the eve of Holy Days, so this Chanukah echoes of an earlier time. 

Israel fears that the United States and France want to advance another move on the Israeli-Palestinian issue before the Obama administration wraps up its term. The international foreign ministers’ meeting is scheduled for January 15 in Paris as part of the French peace initiative, a series of decisions on the peace process will be made. These will immediately be brought to the UN Security Council for a vote and will be adopted there before January 20.

God is clear. Whoever blesses Israel will be blessed, whoever curses Israel will be cursed. America, under Barack Obama’s leadership, has now, for the very first time actively cursed Israel. A red line has been crossed.

All that we can now do, is wait for the judgment that will now fall. It will fall on the United States corporately, and there is nothing that Donald Trump can do to stop it.

Fourth of July – Independence or Slavery

At Toastmasters we start our meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, standing at attention with our right hand over our heart and face the American flag hanging in the corner.

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”,

Not being raised in America, gave me an opportunity to hear the pledge with adult ears and think about the words….One Nation under God……Liberty…. Justice for all…..

Does God see “One Nation under God” when He looks at America?

Do you think He cares that we are:

  • The world’s largest arms dealer
  • Largest consumer of illegal drugs
  • We lead the world in incarcerated citizens. We are 5% of the World population and we have 25% of world prisoners.
  • One in six black men had been incarcerated as of 2001 and African Americans now constitute nearly 1 million of the total 2.3 million incarcerated population.
  • We are number 1 in defense spending and outspend the next 15 countries combined despite the fact that 13 are our closest allies.
  • We send more missionaries preaching the “word of faith”  RIPOFF  to the poor in Africa and South America.
  • We destabilized the Middle East – and then went home leaving 6 countries in ruins and millions dead. They have reason to hate us…..
  • We are the largest creator and exporter of PORN to flood every smart phone on the planet – with a target age now of 10 years old….25% of all net traffic is porn.
  • We kill more unborn than any other nation and promote and fund abortion here and overseas. The number of legal abortions performed in the United States is about 1.5 million per year. In the United States, we deliberately kill one of every four unborn babies.
  • We  allow the sale of human body parts, despite its laws that are supposed to protect against it.
  • We promote the homosexual agenda, both domestically and internationally.
  • We lead the advertising and media industry, to mislead consumers.
  • We produce and promote poisonous food (banned all over except here) harming people and the environment.- G.M.O.’s and other poisons leading to an obese and undernourished nation.

We are not the greatest country in the world in any of the measures that matter.

  • We are
  • 7th in literacy,
  • 27th in math,
  • 22nd in science,
  • 49th in life expectancy,
  • 178th in infant mortality

 

America isn’t number one in:
The U.S. ranks 47th in press freedom, according to Reporters Without Borders.
The U.S. is 25th among 43 developing countries for the best place to be a mother.
The U.S. is only the 11th happiest country in the world, according Columbia University.
There are 21 countries better than America in freedom from corruption, according to Heritage.org.
The U.S. was ranked 24th in perceived honesty, according to Transparency.org.
The U.S. is an embarrassing 142nd out of 150 countries in infrastructure investment, according to the CIA World Factbook. Our infrastructure is old and falling apart.
The US growth rate of industrial production is ranked 79th,according to the CIA World Factbook…..It seems we shipped all those jobs overseas.
The US. is ranked 192nd, dead last, in the net trade of goods and services,according to the CIA World Factbook.

Personally, I think God cares less about our failing industrial production and being the greatest debtor nation in history.

He does care about a  corrupt society, satiated in blood, drugs, and immorality. 

Ezekiel 16:48-50 God compares Jerusalem to Sodom, saying “Sodom never did what you and your daughters have done.” He explains that the sin of Sodom was that “She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me.”

He further explains Jude 1:7…”Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange (Greek: different, other) flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of fire.”

If God is God,  who changes not …He has three choices….

To remain Just and Righteous…God must…

  • He has to destroy us.
  • He must change Us (Revival).
  • He must apologize to Sodom.

BREXIT – The world changed forever.

Britain is the second-largest EU economy after Germany. It also has a seat on the UN Security Council, and it’s a close ally of the US, and of course, Australia.

Last year, Britain’s government borrowed an equivalent of 4.4 percent of its gross domestic product. The only EU nations with a higher level of borrowing are Spain and Greece, both troubled economies that have required some form of bailout.

Britain’s trade is in a dire position. Its current account deficit is at 7 percent of GDP—the highest peacetime level since records began in 1772. At the heart of this problem is the simple fact that Britain is importing far more than it is exporting.

BREXIT (the vote to leave the EU) was motivated by the following fears and concerns:

  • Over 300,000 immigrants directed from the EU settling in the U.K. in 2015 taking jobs and straining public services.
  • The inability to negotiate trade agreements unless all 28 nations of the EU agree and vote to adopt the agreement so trade with India and China and Australia were stalled.
  • Fears of a German proposal for an European Army separate from NATO, and the possibility of Turkey joining the EU and the subsequent new flood of economic refugees.

A short history of Britain in Europe

1951 – European Coal and Steel Community founded under the Treaty of Paris, as a way to prevent  future wars between France and West Germany

1957 – European Economic Community (EEC) founded under the Treaty of Rome (pictured) – original signatories are West Germany, France, Luxembourg, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands

1963 and 1967 – French leader Charles de Gaulle vetoes UK membership.

1969 – UK applies for a third time, this time successfully

1973 – UK joins the EEC

1975 – UK holds its first referendum on membership of the EEC; votes to stay a member

1991 – Maastricht Treaty formally establishes the European Union as a political body

1999 – Single European currency adopted by 11 member states in 1999; UK does not join.

2016 – UK votes to leave the EU with 51 – 48 majority voting to leave or BREXIT.

On June 23rd 2016 the British people voted to leave the EU. Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty goes into effect for the first time ever, as the UK now has 24 months to negotiate its way out.

The successful BREXIT vote was clear and shocking. Financial markets plunged. Worldwide markets lost more than $2 trillion on Friday in paper wealth, according to data from S&P Global, the worst on record.  The pound traded at a 40 year low, and the Credit Agencies lowered Britain’s credit rating.

This event is as momentous as the end of the cold war and the Wall in Germany coming down.

The world is also economically due for another recession (7 years since 2008-2009)  and the discontented angry voters will stage more nationalistic uprisings. All over Europe we will see the rise of a Nationalist Right. America as in the 1930’s will become more isolationist leaving the rest of the world to fight their own battles. This will lead to a rearming of Japan, Korea, China and Germany.

The financial chaos of the 1929 crash and the subsequent depression gave rise to the following leaders who were nationalistic and promised answers to their nation’s woes.

  • Tito – Yugoslavia
  • Tojo –Japan
  • Mussolini –Italy
  • Hitler –Germany
  • Stalin –Russia
  • Mao –China
  • Franco – Spain

We are entering a similar time with all the same problems…..aggravated by an unstable Middle East and the Islamic threat. The EU will be under further threat as other countries like the Greece choose to leave.

There is an end time scenario that holds to a union of 10 kings arising in Europe. Revelation describes this union as….. The ten horns which you saw are ten kings, which have received no power as yet but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.  These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.” (Rev. 17:12-13)   The message to us is to watch and pray….and just perhaps world events will shake us from our sleep.

 

BREXIT – Acts of God.

This week we witnessed history in the making. Britain was to decide whether to stay in the EU. For weeks the BREXIT polls had been tied with all the establishment leaders including the Prime Minister confident in a “REMAIN” vote. Bookies offered 13 to 1 odds against a BREXIT.

The demographics pointed to the over 40 age favouring “LEAVE” and the younger voters wanting to “REMAIN.” London in the South had elected a Muslim mayor and favored “REMAIN” while the further North more and more favored to “LEAVE.” A high turnout was seen as helping the “remain” camp, a Wall Street Journal story said. That’s because it would suggest younger people, who typically don’t bother to vote, would actually cast ballots, and younger people supported EU membership.

Although the British seemed ready to vote in the Brexit referendum to “Remain” in the European Union, an intense “Act of God” storm system moved in and favor a vote for the “Leave” campaign by bringing a month’s worth of rain in “just three hours” on voting day.

The eve of the election at precisely midnight a huge storm hit England. Summer storms always came from the West and Atlantic Ocean. Eerily this storm came from Europe and Brussels in the East. In London alone 300 calls an hour poured in to emergency services…while 6,000 lightning strikes hit. The storms would move North from the Southeast as the day progressed.

The Breakdown was as follows:

Central England (High Brexit support): Largely dry day with more showers in the evening.

East (High proportion of Brexiters): Wetter than northern and central England with the chance of thunder during the afternoon.

Southwest (Around 40 per cent of people plan to vote leave): Wet and rainy during the morning, becoming clearer and drier through the afternoon.

Southeast (Relatively high percentage of leavers): Largely dry with showers around the coast.

London (High support to stay): Heavy rain in the morning, drying out later with thunderstorms predicted in the afternoon.

Two London polling stations were forced to close due to flooding. Another two, in Kingston-upon-Thames, had to be moved at the last minute. Then the London Underground flooded. Conspiracy theorists saw an attack on their democratic rights.  Even Britain’s loudest blond, Boris Johnson, who made it to his local polling station with only 18 minutes to spare after his flight from Edinburgh, was delayed by the weather.

Despite the storm, the flooded Underground, and the power blackouts the older voters came out. They held their nerve and were not deterred by warnings from the Bank of England, or by the money markets, that the pound would plunge (it did) and markets would crash (that happened too).

They were not defeated. The BREXIT “LEAVE” campaign won by more than a million votes. Europe and England were forever changed.

We forget who is Sovereign over all.

Leaders scheme and masses vote….but Daniel 2 v21 says It is God who alters the times and seasons, and He removes kings and promotes kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. The weather played a part. Some feel it tipped the scales to favour BREXIT.  Jeremiah 10:13 When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, And He causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain, And He brings out the wind from His storehouses.

Creation Groans

Over a single two week (14 day) period the we count staggering losses of fish, birds and animals. The words of the bible written 2000 year ago,  describe today's reality. Day after day, the dying continues.

Hosea 4 v 3   The LORD has a charge to bring against …………because of this the land dries up, and all who live in it waste away; the beasts of the field, the birds in the sky and the fish in the sea are swept away…”

Zephaniah 1:3  “I will sweep away both men and animals; I will sweep away the birds of the air and the fish of the sea. The wicked will have only heaps of rubble when I cut off man from the face of the earth,” declares the LORD.

Losses are not measured in pounds but in thousands of tons. How long will it take for this trend to show up as shortages and higher food prices? Will that prompt our groaning?

Sunday September 27th 2015 will be a harvest moon and a blood moon and a super moon and the last of a Lunar Tetrad. NASA says this is the first time in 30 years for a super moon and an eclipse to coincide.

In discussing the sun, moon and the stars let’s be certain we are together on the definitions of astronomy and astrology. Astronomy is the science of studying the movements and positions of planets and stars. Astrology is the worship of stars, which is cultic and pagan.

The harvest moon is also special because it will rise in the east near sunset and appear full for several days in a row — making it seem as if there is more than one full moon. A “normal” harvest moon wouldn’t necessarily appear bigger and brighter than those during the rest of the year, but this one may because it’s also a super moon.

A blood moon can appear reddish in color during a lunar eclipse (which will fall on Sunday, Sept. 27 2015). That’s because the moon reflects light from the sun. According to NASA, almost all colors except red are “filtered” out, and the eclipsed moon appears reddish or even brown. This filtering effect is one of the origins of the term “blood moon.”

The Bible could also refer to blood moons. From Joel 2:31-32 (New King James Version): “The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Sept 27th 2015 moon is final moon of what’s called a “lunar tetrad,” which began in 2014. A lunar tetrad is four total lunar eclipses in succession, with no partial lunar eclipses in between, separated by six lunar months (or six full moons).

The harvest moon, blood moon, super moon and eclipse will all be visible starting Sunday night, Sept 27th 2015.

Now what makes this particular Lunar Tetrad of blood moons interesting is that they have all fallen on the Gods Holy Days (Feasts of the Lord in Leviticus 23) as defined by His Calendar. The Hebrew calendar is a lunar based calendar, so starts each month on a New Moon and so the 15th of the month is traditionally a Full moon.

It is important to realize that the bible NOWHERE mentions “lunar tetrads” or ‘blood moons” as having some special prophetic meaning. Scriptures do not say that they point to any specific prophetic outcome.

At best this whole article is merely speculative pattern recognition. We cannot draw conclusions about the timing of the Rapture or the Tribulation based on a naturally occurring “sequence of eclipses” and “blood moons.”

BUT…..Four blood moons on four Feasts of the Lord within two years is very rare and has only occurred seven (7)  times since the time of Yeshua. There are now four blood moons scheduled to appear in 2014/2015 and then there will NOT be any for the next 100 years.

The events that have followed each of these seven Tetrads have been startling…..

As a former stockbroker with Morgan Stanley I started my career just weeks after the Black Monday of October 1987.  The Seven Year Cycles in stocks caught my interest.  My career suffered a few of those cycles.

Jonathan Cahn a Messianic Rabbi has made the Shemitah Year a household word with his book the “Mystery of the Shemitah.” This Shemitah (Shmita) commandment was given to Israel in Leviticus 25 and was to govern their agriculture and their economics.

The Sabbath Year

In Leviticus chapter 25 v 1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying: 2 Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: When you come into the land that I give you, the land shall keep a sabbath to the Lord. 3 For six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard and gather in its fruit, 4 but in the seventh year there shall be a sabbath of complete rest for the land, a sabbath for the Lord. You shall neither sow your field nor prune your vineyard. 5 That which grows by itself from your harvest you shall not reap, nor gather the grapes of your unpruned vines, for it is a year of complete rest for the land. (Lev.25:1-7).

The Year for Canceling Debts

Deuteronomy 15 v 1 – At the end of every seven years you must cancel debts. 2 This is how it is to be done: Every creditor shall cancel any loan they have made to a fellow Israelite. They shall not require payment from anyone among their own people, because the Lord’s time for canceling debts has been proclaimed. 3 You may require payment from a foreigner, but you must cancel any debt your fellow Israelite owes you.

God took this land rest so seriously that He only allowed Israel to violate the command for 490 years then He came to collect on the 70 years of rest they owed the land. They were taken into captivity for 70 years to give the land an opportunity to rest.

Jeremiah 25 v 11 This whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years. …13 I will bring upon that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations.

2 Chronicles 36 v 19 – 22  So they burned down the house of God, tore down the wall of Jerusalem, burned down all the palaces with fire, and destroyed all the precious items. 20 Then he carried into exile to Babylon the remnant, who survived the sword, and they were slaves to him and his sons until the kingdom of Persia ruled, 21 to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her Sabbaths. As long as she lay desolate, she kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.

So the question remains …. Does this apply to America?  The land rest command was only given to Israel which was a Theocracy bound to YHVH in covenant with their borders defined in scripture. God calls that particular piece of property “His land.”

The USA is a Gentile nation (melting pot of the world) which cannot assume those promises/curses as some kind of New Israel.  That is just another version of Replacement Theology. The USA is not Israel and given her moral behavior and national character….she is no longer even a “Christian nation.”

However…..Ps 24 v 1  says “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.“ He is coming back to rule it with a Universal Law. Those Shmita Laws were given by the  “God that does not change.” Would those Land Rest Laws (Shmita) not be implemented over all the earth?  He is coming to reign for 1000 years, and of His government there will be no end?

Are we in America suffering the unintended economic consequences of ignoring those economic principles? Regardless…the principle of reaping what we have sown will be judgement enough to bring about our ruin.

 

 

The Pope and Palestine

The U.N. turns 70 years old this year. The State of Israel was created by UN Resolution 181 on November 29, 1947. Called the partition plan, Israel accepted the deal, but the Arab governments rejected it and went to war against Israel. It would have created an independent Palestinian state on 52 percent of historic Palestine.

France and New Zealand has been working on draft to be presented to the UN Security Council resolution that would set out the steps for a negotiated end of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land and a solution to the nearly 70-year-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The draft would define the pre-1967 frontier as a reference point for border talks but allow room for exchanges of territory, designate Jerusalem as capital of both Israel and a Palestinian state and call for a fair solution for Palestinian refugees.

Most of the 135 nations that have recognized a state of Palestine did so in 1988, after the Palestine Liberation Organization declared it; Sweden was the last, in October. The British, French, Spanish and Irish Parliaments have in recent months passed resolutions urging their governments to follow suit.

France is also considering sharp economic measures against Israeli goods and businesses east of the Green Line. Settlements are illegal according to international law and the EU should not apply its agreements with Israel to them.  Brussels  has toughened its stance on implementing these policies following Israel’s March 17 elections. The EU, Israel’s biggest trading partner, is exploring guidelines that would require Israel to label settlement products. It already bars goods produced in settlements from receiving customs exemptions given to Israeli goods.

Vatican recognition of Palestinian State

On May 13th on the anniversary of the Palestinian catastrophe known as Nakba when 750,000 Palestinians were uprooted during the war, the Vatican, the world’s smallest country, officially recognized Palestine. Official diplomatic recognition came in the final version of an official joint statement of the Vatican and Palestine.

“The wider Arab world often thinks that it’s a Christian West against a Muslim East,” Father Khader said, “so this is an important step from the Catholic Church to show that, no, it is standing with the rights of Palestinians and with the right to a state of Palestine.”

During his visit to Palestine in May 2014, Pope Francis made an unscheduled stop in Bethlehem, the little town where Jesus was born. He placed his hand on the 30-foot high concrete structure that Palestinians refer to as the “apartheid wall.”

This pope is no stranger to diplomacy and he was effective in facilitating change in US-Cuba relations. President Obama and Raul Castro both thanked Pope Francis for urging them to reach the landmark agreement to swap prisoners and end decades of Cold War animosity.  When the Pope and Obama met at the Vatican for the first time in March 2014, the Pope lobbied the U.S. President to lift sanctions on Cuba.

The Pope visiting  the USA now and his stated position on Palestine is recognition. Would he not lobby President Obama to join the majority of the U.N. as they dictate the establishment of a Palestinian State? The USA veto alone has held back the majority decision in the UN to divide Israel.

The inevitable division of the land is certain. The French diplomatic initiative coupled with the recent Vatican and European support may be enough to cause the U.S.A. to reconsider its use of the UN Security Council Veto.

Then Israel will have its future decided by the same Babylon that gave it birth with the resolution 181 in 1947.   Joel 3:2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.
