The deuterocanonical books (from the Greek meaning “belonging to the second canon”) are books and passages considered by the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church to be canonical books of the Old Testament but which are considered non-canonical by Protestant denominations. This preface to the Scriptures may serve as a “helmeted” introduction to all the books which we turn from Hebrew into Latin, so that we may be assured that what is not found in our list must be placed amongst the Apocryphal writings. Wisdom, therefore, which generally bears the name of Solomon, and the book of Jesus, the Son of Sirach, and Judith, and Tobias, and the Shepherd are not in the canon.

Prophecy helps us see the big picture of God’s program for the ages—His unfolding, eternal drama. Prophecy is important for many reasons, and without it, we might struggle to make sense of a lot of what goes on in our world today. For example, knowing that the world is headed toward a period called the Great Tribulation informs us as to why things appear to be getting worse instead of better. One major factor that distinguishes the Bible from other holy books is its prophetic accuracy. The Bible was written over a period of 1,600 years. It consists of 66 books composed by 40 different authors.
The Middle East seems to bring the world a constant stream of bad news. Bible prophecy shows that this bad news will continue until Jesus Christ’s return. But once the world survives “Armageddon” in the Middle East, a time of good news will follow. Jerusalem will then live up to its name: “City of Peace.”
Despite man’s effort to address different issues that threaten his existence, suffering is inevitable. But amidst the pain and suffering, where do you look? Do you look at the valley of shadow and wallow in sorrow or do you look up in heaven and search for silver linings? This booklet will remind us of the hope that Jesus brought 2,000 years ago. His message prophesized the wonderful future for humanity after a period of intense catastrophes. The author emphasized that the gospel should not be reduced to a story about one person because it is a message of salvation for the world. It is the message that Jesus announces to humanity and instructs us to believe. Despite the hardships in this world, He wants us to experience the Kingdom of God here on Earth.

The vast majority in the English-speaking world are totally ignorant of the contents of the Bible, know not that it is a Divine revelation, yea, question whether there be any God at all. Yet modern skepticism is rarely candid, but is rather a refuge in which multitudes are sheltering from an accusing conscience. With such we are not here concerned, for where a prejudiced mind and a caviling spirit obtain, argument is useless; and we can but leave them unto the sovereign mercy of the Lord.”
