We created religion to keep God far away from us.
Priests were to carry out the worship of God, but Peter says we are now that Priesthood.
1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: {praises: or, virtues}
1Pe 2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
So what does this worship of God entail? How do we do it? Is a 5 minute song service once a week?
De 30:6 And the Lord your God will give to you and to your seed a circumcision of the heart, so that, loving him with all your heart and all your soul, you may have life.
Mt 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
As with Abraham worship involves sacrifice and must cost our all.
Why does God view false worship as harlotry or fornication?
Why call a false church a great whore? What is there about sex and relationships that we can learn about God? For I think everything is designed for a glorious reason to reflect the mind and will of God.
I believe one reason He uses sex to represent worship is because it involves soul, mind, heart and body.
God wants our relationship with Him in worship to be as intense and complete as that union He created for man when he said, The two shall be One flesh. How can two become one and stay two people? What did He mean when he said my Father and I are one?
He pointed out very clearly that there were three types of adultery.
1) Physical – Ex 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
2) Mental – Matt 5:28 But I say unto you that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
3) Spiritual Adultery – James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Judges 2:17 They turned aside quickly in which their fathers had walked and played the harlot after other Gods. God hated Idolatry and called it Harlotry.
Ex 20:5 I am a Jealous God. He is not insecure as in wanting praise, He is jealous as a husband would be.
He will not share his Glory or His worship with anything or anyone.
What is God so jealous of?
Today I want to look at the concept of worship: Worshipping God with our whole—
- 1) Soul
- 2) Mind
- 3) Heart
A triangle made of 3 sides is complete — 3 strands not quickly broken.
Ec 4:12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Soul – Emotional Side – Intimacy – Romance
Dance with me…Jesus, lover of my soul…the soul is our deepest selves.
To understand this takes years of one soul opening up to another as a relationship builds.
If we don’t pursue a relationship with a spouse there is no friendship, and then finally nothing in common. Real intimacy comes over years of shared secrets and knowing – really knowing! – each other.
Adam knew his wife — this is what the same Hebrew God expects of us; it is the highest form of relationship and closest intimacy and it is that act, that spiritual act, of one spirit touching another (two that become one) that God uses to create knew life, to worship him.
I believe Sex to be a spiritual act, serving God in His design or Satan in his deception and desire for false worship.
