An Exposition of Galatians -Don Garlington

An Exposition of Galatians
A Reading from the “New Perspective” by Don Garlington – To all those who have listened patient to my lectures on Galatians,
and especially to my esteemed teacher and friend,
James D. G. Dunn
Galatians has become even more controversial than ever these days with the advent of the
“New Perspective on Paul” in his relation to contemporary Judaism. The present commentary
assumes a modified form of this “New Perspective” as its framework of interpretation, and for
this reason a premium has been placed on the letter’s historical context as attested by the
literature of Second Temple Judaism. It must be added, however, that far from being inimical to
the foundational concerns of the Reformation, the reading of the Galatian letter proffered herein
is fully supportive of the great mottoes of the Reformers themselves: sola scriptura, sola fide,
Sola Gratia and especially Solus Christus, and all the more as the present work endeavors to
honor an oft-neglected slogan of the Reformation—ad fontes (“to the sources”)

On Torah and Galatians

In this study you will learn what the Hebrew idioms, “works of the law”, and “under the law” meant, and what the word justified meant, to the first century Jewish believers who had lived, and grown up, and spent all their lives participating in a Temple centered covenant, with its sacrifices, and of how Yeshua affected the process in how we, and the gentiles alike, are to approach Elohim (God) for the remission of our sins. This study is on the Book of Galatians, the most commonly misunderstood and misquoted book outside of the Book of Romans. And why is it misunderstood and misquoted – and I might add, often mistranslated?

Exegeting Galatians

by Torah Teacher Ariel ben-Lyman HaNaviy. The book of Galatians has misled Christian commentators due largely to the technical discussions of biblical topics ranging from circumcision, to the Torah, to freedom in Christ. A contextual study of Galatians will help to unravel the letter for both Christians and Jews. To be sure, without a proper background to the book we will forever misread Paul, Apostle to the Gentiles. In B’resheet (Genesis) starting with Avraham circumcision we begin to peel back the mysteries surrounding this simple biblical command we stand a better chance at understanding Rav Sha’ul (Apostle Paul) and his enigmatic instructions.

Understanding the Life & Ministry of Jesus

Dr. John De Lancey Introduction It has been said, “the roots of Christianity run deep into Hebrew soil.”1 All that we read in the Gospels about the life and ministry of Jesus of
Nazareth has a Hebraic context. Hence, “the place to begin searching for Jesus is in the world in which he grew. His roots were first-century Judaism.”2 This historical reality has been under-valued and to a certain extent suppressed and ignored, obscuring a plain view of whom Jesus was and is to us today.
